The species Micromonospora brunnea was originally described by Sveshnikova et al. 1969. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Szabó and Fernandez established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Micromonospora purpureochromogenes (Waksman and Curtis 1916) Luedemann 1971 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1984.
