The species Micromonospora purpureochromogenes was originally described by Luedemann 1971. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Szabó and Fernandez established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Micromonospora brunnea Sveshnikova et al. 1969 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1984.
