Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 22 in 1986. The subspecies Pilimelia columellifera columellifera was originally described by Schäfer 1973. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1986 the name was revived by Vobis et al.. In 1986, Vobis et al. reduced (ex Schäfer 1973) Vobis et al. 1986 to the rank of subspecies.
