The species Pseudonocardia azurea was originally described by Ōmura et al. 1979. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 11 in 1983. In 1987, Henssen et al. established Pseudonocardia azurea as the basonym of
Amycolatopsis azurea (Ōmura et al. 1983) Henssen et al. 1987 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
