The genus Saccharothrix was originally proposed and validly published by Labeda et al. 1984. Labeda and Lechevalier published an emended description of this genus in 1989. Lee et al. transferred the members of Yassin et al. 1995 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018 into this genus in 2000.
