The subspecies Streptomyces achromogenes achromogenes was originally described by Okami and Umezawa 1953. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1965, Bhuyan et al. reduced
Streptomyces achromogenes Okami and Umezawa 1953 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
to the rank of subspecies.
