The species Streptomyces althioticus was originally described by Yamaguchi et al. 1957. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Komaki published an emended description of this species in 2021. Komaki established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of (Preobrazhenskaya et al. 1957) Pridham et al. 1958 (Approved Lists 1980) in 2021. Komaki established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Margalith et al. 1959 (Approved Lists 1980) in 2021.
