The species Streptomyces bobili was originally described by Waksman and Henrici 1948. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Saygin et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. Saygin et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Ettlinger et al. 1958 (Approved Lists 1980) in 2020.
