The species Streptomyces canescens was originally described by Waksman 1957. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Rong et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Rossi Doria 1891) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018 in 2009.
