The species Streptomyces canus was originally described by Heinemann et al. 1953. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. Kämpfer et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces ciscaucasicus Gause et al. 1986 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
in 2018.
