The subspecies Streptomyces diastaticus ardesiacus was originally described by Pridham et al. 1958. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Komaki and Tamura elevated this subspecies to the rank of species to form the name (Baldacci et al. 1955) Komaki and Tamura 2020 in 2020.
