The species Streptomyces ederensis was originally described by Wallhäusser et al. 1966. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Saygin established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces umbrinus (Sveshnikova 1957) Pridham et al. 1958 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Saygin 2021
in 2021.
