The species Streptomyces erythrogriseus was originally described by Falcão de Morais and Dália Maia 1959. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Komaki established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Preobrazhenskaya et al. 1957) Pridham et al. 1958 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Komaki 2021 in 2021.
