The species Streptomyces hirsutus was originally described by Ettlinger et al. 1958. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Labeda et al. published an emended description of this species in 2016. Labeda et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of (Krasil'nikov and Agre 1960) Pridham 1970 (Approved Lists 1980) in 2016.
