This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 26 in 1988. The species Streptomyces macrosporus was originally described by Krasil'nikov et al. 1968. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1987 the name was revived by Goodfellow et al..
