The species Streptomyces matensis was originally described by Margalith et al. 1959. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Komaki established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Yamaguchi et al. 1957 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Komaki 2021 in 2021.
