Nomenclatural History
The genus Rhodospirillum was originally proposed by Molisch 1907. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Pfennig and Trüper published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Imhoff et al. in 1984, Imhoff et al. in 1998 and Lakshmi et al. in 2014.
