The species Acetobacter diazotrophicus was originally described and validly published by Gillis et al. 1989. In 1997, Yamada et al. established Acetobacter diazotrophicus as the basonym of
Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus corrig. (Gillis et al. 1989) Yamada et al. 1998 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
