The species Acetobacter peroxydans was originally described by Visser't Hooft 1925. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. Gosselé et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Acetobacter pasteurianus (Hansen 1879) Beijerinck and Folpmers 1916 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Hördt et al. 2020
in 1983.
