The species Acetobacter syzygii was originally described by Lisdiyanti et al. 2001. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 84 in 2002. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020.
