Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 15 in 1984. Trüper and de' Clari corrected this name from (sic) to . The species Rickettsia montanensis was originally described by Lackman et al. 1965. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1984 the name was revived by Weiss and Moulder.
