Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 25 in 1988. The species Rickettsia rhipicephali was originally described by Burgdorfer et al. 1978. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1984 the name was revived by Weiss and Moulder.
