The species Meganema perideroedes was originally described and validly published by Thomsen et al. 2006. Oren replaced this illegitimate name with
Neomegalonema perideroedes (Thomsen et al. 2006) Oren 2017 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
in 2017. In 2017, Oren established Meganema perideroedes as the basonym of
Neomegalonema perideroedes (Thomsen et al. 2006) Oren 2017 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
.
This name is illegitimate because the name of the genus is illegitimate.
