The species Mycobacterium conceptionense was originally described by Adékambi et al. 2006. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 111 in 2006. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. In 2018, Gupta et al. established as the basonym of (Adékambi et al. 2006) Gupta et al. 2018 .
