Nomenclatural History
The species Achromobacter xylosoxidans was originally described by Yabuuchi and Ohyama 1971. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1981 the name was revived and validly published by Yabuuchi and Yano. Yabuuchi et al. published an emended description of this species in 1998. In 1986, Kiredjian et al. established as the basonym of (Yabuuchi and Yano 1981) Kiredjian et al. 1986 . In 1998, List Editor reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form Yabuuchi and Yano 1981 .
