Nomenclatural History
|
The subspecies Alcaligenes denitrificans denitrificans was originally described by Rüger and Tan 1983. In 1983, Rüger and Tan reduced
Alcaligenes denitrificans (ex Leifson and Hugh 1954) Rüger and Tan 1983
to the rank of subspecies.
This subspecies results from the transfer of Achromobacter xylosoxydans into Alcaligenes denitrificans as Alcaligenes denitrificans subsp. xylosoxydans. However, Kiredjian et al. assert that name is illegitimate, which means this coordinate status subspecies is also illegitimate.
