Nomenclatural History	The species Bacillus subtilis was originally described by Cohn 1872. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Cohn formed this name in 1872 by placing the species Vibrio subtilis Ehrenberg 1835 into the genus Bacillus Cohn 1872 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Gupta et al. 2020. In 1999, Nakamura et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form Bacillus subtilis subtilis (Ehrenberg 1835) Nakamura et al. 1999 .
