Vibrio subtilis Ehrenberg 1835
into the genus Bacillus Cohn 1872 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Gupta et al. 2020. In 1999, Nakamura et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Bacillus subtilis subtilis (Ehrenberg 1835) Nakamura et al. 1999
