Nomenclatural History
The species Campylobacter sputorum was originally described by Véron and Chatelain 1973. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Roop et al. published an emended description of this species in 1986. A subsequent emendation was proposed by On et al. in 1998. In 1973, Véron and Chatelain reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Prévot 1940) Véron and Chatelain 1973 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Roop et al. 1986 .
