Nomenclatural History
The species Desulfotomaculum thermobenzoicum was originally described by Tasaki et al. 1991. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 39 in 1991. Plugge et al. published an emended description of this species in 2002. In 2002, Plugge et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Tasaki et al. 1991) Plugge et al. 2002 . In 2018, Watanabe et al. established as the basonym of (Tasaki et al. 1991) Watanabe et al. 2018 .
