Nomenclatural History
The species Lactobacillus delbrueckii was originally described by Beijerinck 1901. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 38 in 1971. In 1983, Weiss et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Leichmann 1896) Beijerinck 1901 (Approved Lists 1980) .
