Nomenclatural History
The species Lactobacillus salivarius was originally described by Rogosa et al. 1953. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Li et al. published an emended description of this species in 2006. Li et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Rogosa et al. 1953 (Approved Lists 1980) in 2006. In 2006, Li et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form Rogosa et al. 1953 (Approved Lists 1980) . In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Rogosa et al. 1953) Zheng et al. 2020 .
