Nomenclatural History

The species Maribius salinus was originally described and validly published by Choi et al. 2007. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. In 2020, Barnier et al. established Maribius salinus as the basonym of
Palleronia salina (Choi et al. 2007) Barnier et al. 2022
. Barnier et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Maribius pelagius Choi et al. 2007
in 2020.
Barnier et al. 2020 incorrectly refer to "M. salinus" as "M. marinus" in establishing a putative synonym. However, they did not extend this assertion to their new combinations of those names.
