Kasai et al. published an emended description of this species in 2000. In 1964, Luedemann and Brodsky reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form

. Kasai et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Micromonospora purpurea Luedemann and Brodsky 1964 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2000. Kasai et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Micromonospora rhodorangea Wagman et al. 1974 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2000.
