Nomenclatural History
The species Oceanospirillum beijerinckii was originally described by Hylemon et al. 1973. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Pot et al. published an emended description of this species in 1989. In 1989, Pot et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Williams and Rittenberg 1957) Pot et al. 1989 .
