Nomenclatural History
The species Oceanospirillum maris was originally described by Hylemon et al. 1973. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Pot et al. published an emended description of this species in 1989. In 1978, Linn and Krieg reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form Hylemon et al. 1973 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Pot et al. 1989 .
