Nomenclatural History
The species Photorhabdus luminescens was originally described and validly published by Boemare et al. 1993. Fischer-Le Saux et al. published an emended description of this species in 1999. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Machado et al. in 2018 and Machado et al. in 2019. Boemare et al. formed this name in 1993 by placing the species Thomas and Poinar 1979 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Boemare et al. 1993. In 1999, Fischer-Le Saux et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Thomas and Poinar 1979) Fischer-Le Saux et al. 1999 .
