The species Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes was originally described by Stanier et al. 1966. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1978, Schaad et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form Stanier et al. 1966 (Approved Lists 1980) .
