The species Roseomonas gilardii was originally described by Rihs et al. 1993. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 65 in 1998. Sánchez-Porro et al. published an emended description of this species in 2009. In 2009, Sánchez-Porro et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
