Nomenclatural History
The species Spirochaeta aurantia was originally described by Vinzent 1926. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1980 the name was revived and validly published by Canale-Parola. In 1984, Canale-Parola reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (ex Vinzent 1926) Canale-Parola 1980 .
