Nomenclatural History

The species Staphylococcus equorum was originally described by Schleifer et al. 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 17 in 1985. Jeong et al. published an emended description of this species in 2013. In 2003, Place et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Staphylococcus equorum equorum Schleifer et al. 1985
