Nomenclatural History
The species Streptococcus constellatus was originally described by Holdeman and Moore 1974. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Whiley and Beighton published an emended description of this species in 1991. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Whiley et al. in 1999. In 1999, Whiley et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Prévot 1924) Whiley et al. 1999 .
