The species Streptomyces rutgersensis was originally described by Waksman and Henrici 1948. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1954, Cercós reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Streptomyces rutgersensis rutgersensis (Waksman and Curtis 1916) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980)
. Komaki and Tamura established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces diastaticus (Krainsky 1914) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Komaki and Tamura 2020
in 2020.
