Nomenclatural History
The species Syntrophomonas wolfei was originally described by McInerney et al. 1981. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 8 in 1982. Wu et al. published an emended description of this species in 2007. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Lorowitz et al. in 1989. In 1989, Lorowitz et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (McInerney et al. 1982) Lorowitz et al. 1989 .
