Nomenclatural History
The species Zymomonas mobilis was originally described by Kluyver and van Niel 1936. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. De Ley and Swings published an emended description of this species in 1976. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Hördt et al. in 2020. In 1980, Skerman et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Lindner 1928) Kluyver and van Niel 1936 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Coton et al. 2006 .
