The species Desulfomicrobium thermophilum was originally described by Thevenieau et al. 2007. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 118 in 2007. In 2020, Galushko and Kuever established as the basonym of (Thevenieau et al. 2007) Galushko and Kuever 2021 .
