The species Shewanella haliotis was originally described and validly published by Kim et al. 2007. Szeinbaum et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Shewanella algae corrig. Simidu et al. 1990 emend. Szeinbaum et al. 2018
in 2018.
