The species Clostridium ghoni was originally described by Prévot 1938. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Cato et al. corrected this name from Clostridium ghoni (sic) to Clostridium ghonii . In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established Clostridium ghoni as the basonym of
