Nomenclatural History

The species Clostridium thermoaceticum was originally described by Fontaine et al. 1942. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Cato et al. corrected this name from Clostridium thermoaceticum (sic) to Clostridium thermaceticum . In 1994, Collins et al. established Clostridium thermoaceticum as the basonym of
Moorella thermoacetica (Fontaine et al. 1942) Collins et al. 1994
