The subspecies Xenorhabdus nematophilus bovienii was originally described and validly published by Akhurst 1983. Euzeby and Boemare corrected this name from Xenorhabdus nematophilus bovienii (sic) to Xenorhabdus nematophila bovienii . Akhurst and Boemare elevated this subspecies to the rank of species to form the name
Xenorhabdus bovienii (Akhurst 1983) Akhurst and Boemare 1993
in 1988.
