Nomenclatural History
The species Methanoculleus bourgense was originally described and validly published by Maestrojuán et al. 1990. Euzéby corrected this name from (sic) to . Asakawa and Nagaoka published an emended description of this species in 2003. Maestrojuán et al. formed this name in 1990 by placing the species Ollivier et al. 1986 into the genus Maestrojuán et al. 1990. Asakawa and Nagaoka established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Blotevogel et al. 1998 in 2003. Asakawa and Nagaoka established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of (Corder et al. 1988) Maestrojuán et al. 1990 in 2003.
